  1. To address high blood pressure and obesity and improve overall health, doctors are recommending Chatham County residents take a walk around Savannah. New studies suggest that brisk, 11-minute walks are enough to improve your cardiovascular health, reduce the risk for serious diseases, and lower your blood pressure. Currently, 36.1 percent of Chatham County residents face obesity, 15.4 percent self-report they are "not in a healthy state," and 60 percent are on blood pressure medications. Talk with your doctor about how walking might benefit your health. (McDuffie Progress)
  2. The Black Family Wellness Expo will take place this Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at Greenbriar Children's Center. Sponsored by the Savannah Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, it hopes to address health inequities that damage and disrupt the quality of life for many. Events will cover a number of health topics, including mental health, dental health, bullying, suicide prevention, and more. Support is available for all ages, from infants to the elderly. 3. Savannah's River Street Sweets celebrated the start of its 50th anniversary year with a new storefront, samples, and a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities. As one of the country's top 50 candy franchises, River Street Sweets opened its flagship River Street store in 1973 and is happy to welcome the Broughton Street location to the neighborhood. Selling southern treats such as pralines, bear claws, glazed pecans, and more, they are well-loved by locals and visitors alike. To honor its founding year, the company is donating $1,973 raised from its celebration to Ronald McDonald House Charities. (Connect Savannah.com)
