Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:
- The Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating a deadly hit-and-run accident that occurred in Chatham County on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at Gamble Road around 2:32 a.m. The hit-and-run vehicle has been located but the driver has not been found. One victim has been pronounced dead and the other victim has serious injuries. (WSAV-TV)
- The Savannah Tree Foundation distributed trees on Saturday at Tricentennial Park. The foundation distributes trees at least once a year. Participants were able to choose from 14 different species of trees; each family could take home up to five trees. For this past weekend's event, participants were encouraged to wear costumes, and children were given candy. (WTOC)
- Jamaica's limestone mining industry will be shipping 36,000 metric tonnes of limestone to Savannah. The stone will be used in the production of concrete aggregates. The Savannah shipment is the first of a series of regular shipments into the southeastern market. It will take the industry four days to load the first shipment. About 1,000 trucks will be involved in the process. (Jamaica Observer)
Patch deal of the day:
Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don’t need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
