East Savannah United Launches Tuition Scholarship Fund for Eastside Early Childhood Learning Center (savannahtribune.com) — A new early childhood learning center on Savannah’s Eastside is underway, and East Savannah United is launching a tuition scholarship fund so low-income families can afford its roughly $1,000 monthly tuition. Backed by the City of Savannah, Chatham County, and SPLOST funds, the center will open in spring 2026 with childcare, a library, health clinic, and training hub for local providers.
   

2. Cotton exports through Savannah hit record highs due to global demand (griceconnect.com) — Savannah’s port is moving record volumes of U.S. cotton as global manufacturers in the Indian subcontinent and Mediterranean ramp up demand. Georgia Ports officials say the Port of Savannah now handles 37% of U.S. cotton exports, thanks to strong rail connections and investments like the Mason Mega Rail terminal that draw cargo from across Georgia and the Midsouth.
   

3. Savannah emergency department sees spike in substance-related visits during holidays (wjcl.com) — A Savannah emergency room doctor is warning residents about a holiday spike in substance-related visits, including a 20% rise in overdoses during December and January. She urges families to lock up alcohol and THC edibles, and reminds New Year’s revelers to handle fireworks carefully and avoid celebratory gunfire to prevent serious injuries.
   

4. Ghost Pirates Coach's Corner: Rallies, lessons, and the Teddy Bear Toss (wjcl.com) — Savannah hockey fans just watched the Ghost Pirates battle the ECHL-leading Florida Everblades at home, earning one comeback win but dropping the series. Head coach Jared Staal says the team showed resilience and learned hard lessons from costly mistakes.
