- Savannah Mayor Van Johnson has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the recent city council decision to approve housing development at the fairgrounds property site. Following the vote, residents gathered at the fairgrounds to express their frustrations about the vote being rushed, and Mayor Johnson responded to their concerns. On Tuesday, he said he understood residents' concerns over low-income housing, but the incoming development will be senior housing. He continued, saying that it is difficult for the city to develop affordable housing when they are competing with private developers for property. (WSAV)
- The Savannah Ghost Pirates announced that they will be opening a new practice facility in nearby Port Wentworth. The 90,000-square-foot facility is expected to cost $25 million and is slated to open during the summer of 2025. The arena will include a sports bar, two NHL-sized ice rinks, and a pro shop. - The Savannah Chatham County Council on Disability Issues will be hosting a virtual meeting on Apr. 24 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. The guest speaker at the meeting will be Wayne Dawson, Executive Director of the Savannah Chatham County Fair Housing Council, Inc. All residents are invited to attend, and those with disabilities are especially encouraged to attend as the city and county work to make the area a better place for disabled residents.
