Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:
- Liberty County officials are seeking the public's assistance in locating 15-year-old Jayda Turnbow, who has been reported missing since Apr. 25 in East Savannah. According to the Savannah Police Department, she is often seen around the I-95 and Highway 204 region. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is urged to come forward and help with the search. (WJCL News Savannah)
- Savannah State University will have Cynthia Robinson Alexander as the interim president starting Jul. 1, according to University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue. She will be taking over from current President Kimberly Ballard-Washington, who has announced her resignation from the position. Holding a doctorate in law, Alexander leads the Board of Regents' management of all alternative financing transactions, including the system's $2.7 billion public-private venture portfolio. - Ernest Ferguson, a former Savannah police officer, has been charged with larceny and sudden snatch for allegedly stealing a $26,000 Rolex watch on Dec. 27, 2022. This adds to the list of charges he is facing in Georgia and Florida, which include driving under the influence, shoplifting, and drugs. In June 2012, he shot and killed Saudi Lee during a foot chase, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. (WJCL News Savannah)
