3. More firefighters, police precincts to be added in Savannah, officials announce (wsav.com) — Savannah’s newly approved $650 million 2026 budget lowers the property tax rate to its lowest level since 1987 while funding more firefighters, new police precincts, and other city services. Residents in areas like New Hampstead can expect faster emergency response, and the city is still seeking public input on a proposed stormwater utility fee that will return to council in early 2026.

Leftover concrete transformed into new marine habitats along Coastal Georgia (wjcl.com) — Concrete once destined for road base is now forming artificial reefs in the Wilmington River near Savannah, boosting fish habitats and local fishing. SRM Concrete and CCA Georgia led the effort from Skidaway Institute, with plans to expand similar reef projects along Georgia’s coast and into other coastal communities for long-term ecological and recreational benefits.

Georgia gas price average decreases with drivers paying $2.76 per gallon (valdostatoday.com) — Savannah drivers are paying about $2.86 per gallon, making the city one of Georgia’s most expensive metro areas for gas even as statewide prices dip to a $2.76 average. AAA explains that high supplies, easing demand, and winter-blend gasoline are keeping prices lower through the holidays and offers tips to stretch your fuel budget.
