  1. Police in Savannah closed traffic in a part of downtown after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Monday. The incident led to the closure of all lanes of Montgomery Street between Oglethorpe and Broughton, according to a tweet from SPD. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being struck by a pickup truck driven by an older woman who reportedly sped out of a courthouse driveway. (WJCL News Savannah)
  2. Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia and Lowcountry is hosting its sixth annual Pacesetters Concert at 45 Bistro in Savannah on Jun. 4 at 5:00 p.m. The benefit concert will feature several local female musicians, taking listeners on a musical journey across genres and ages. The organization aims to promote youth development through a 10-week program using fun running games and discussions, with 850 girls taking part locally this year. (WSAV-TV)
  3. After a recent series of mass shootings, some Savannah residents are speaking out. Nine people were killed in a mass shooting at a Texas outlet mall just days after another woman was killed in an Atlanta mass shooting. So far in 2023, there have been 243 mass shootings in the United States, according to the Mass Shooting Tracker. Film student Griffin Hansen shared his experience of being on high alert for gunshots, recalling a time when a binder was dropped and he thought it was gunfire. (WTOC)

  • Savannah Country Day highlighted Michael Grandy, one of its students, who plans to attend Proctor Academy in New Hampshire to chase his dreams. Despite facing adversity during his time at Country Day, he has learned to tackle it confidently. His favorite memory at Country Day was winning the basketball region championship in 2021 with his lifelong brothers, and he is grateful for the relationships and support he received from the faculty.   • Nana Agyemang, the founder of Every Stylish Girl, shared her journey and encouraged SCAD students during SCADstyle. She was impressed by the knowledge and discussions at the summit, which covered topics such as AI and content marketing. Agyemang believes that more creative leaders should attend events like this, and she expressed gratitude for the invitation and looks forward to returning in the future.   • Mr. Stanford Black, a single father, is being recognized as the Motivation Monday pick for his determination to utilize all the resources provided to him in the Chatham Apprentice Program to help achieve financial security for his household. The Step Up Savannah organization supports and salutes him for his efforts, and his future with RoadOne looks bright. The Chatham Apprentice Program, which offers both hard and soft skills training combined with wraparound services, places graduates in jobs that pay a living wage, and sign-ups for the May class are available now.
