Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:
- On Tuesday, Jun. 6, Union Mission will hold its 8th annual Raising Hope fundraising gala at the Savannah Convention Center. This event aims to support the Mission's efforts in providing housing solutions and support services to Savannah's homeless community. The gala, emceed by Rabbi Robert Haas and News 3's Tina Tyus-Shaw, will feature a cocktail reception, a silent auction, dinner, and a program including keynote speaker David Ambroz, a renowned expert and advocate in poverty and child welfare. - The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport has partnered with WHILL to offer improved mobility for passengers. The collaboration allows travelers to utilize WHILL Model C2 power chairs to independently navigate the terminal, including visiting various amenities. This service, launched in early May, enhances the airport experience for passengers with reduced mobility, providing them with greater freedom and convenience. (Digital Journal)
- The Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education has named Dr. Denise Watts as the sole finalist for the district's superintendent position. Dr. Watts brings a wealth of experience, including notable achievements as the 2008 National Association of Secondary School Principals North Carolina Principal of the Year and serving in leadership roles in education, such as Chief of District Support at the University of Virginia and Chief of Schools for the Houston Independent School District. The Board plans to hold a public meeting in June to vote on Dr. Watts' selection, and if chosen, she will assume the superintendent role during the summer. (WSAV)
