  1. Savannah city leaders are speaking out against a bill that would increase the truck weight limit of goods across the state. House Bill 189 would permanently change the carrying limit from 84,000 lbs to 88,000 lbs. Nick Palumbo of the City of Savannah government believes the change will put too much burden on local roads, causing potholes and sinkholes to form. The bill remains to be passed through the senate before becoming law. (WTOC)
  2. On Wednesday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp was joined by the Georgia Ports Authority at the 2023 Logistics Summit to discuss the growth of the Port of Savannah. Leaders from the Georgia Ports Authority joined the governor to suggest ways they can ensure the Port continues to grow, such as shortening the cables on the Talmadge Bridge to make it taller. Speakers also discussed the new Hyundai electric vehicle plant coming to Bryan County. The summit is one of the most important supply-chain-focused events in the Southeast. (WJCL News Savannah)
  3. Georgia Southern University students, faculty, and staff planted 13 trees on the Armstrong and Statesboro campuses for Arbor Day. They planted three longleaf pine trees near the Student Union on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah, and 10 dogwood trees along Southern Drive toward Sweetheart Circle. The newly planted trees join more than 250 species varieties across the Savannah and Statesboro campuses. The planting event was organized by Sustain Southern in the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement, The Division of Facilities Services, and the student organization EcoAdvocates.
