South's Best Seafood Dive Calls GA Home, Southern Living Says

Savor the flavor at The Crab Trap, a St. Simons Island jewel that has been named the South's best seafood dive.

The Crab Trap, a "no-fuss eatery," swam to victory after Southern Living readers voted the Ocean Boulevard eatery as the best in the South this year.

Southern Living hosted a survey that included at least 10,000 voters making their selections from July 10-Aug. 21 last year, and the results were recently released.

The Crab Trap, a family-owned restaurant, has been a staple in St. Simons for 45 years, according to its website.

"It is known for its tables with 'the hole' in the middle used for discarding your fresh oyster shells and shrimp tails," the website read.

Crab soup, steamed oysters, Georgia shrimp, sea scallops, deviled crab patties, fish tacos and shrimp creole are among The Crab Trap's dishes.

Entree sides appear traditional with hushpuppies, coleslaw, house salads and battered fries as side items on the menu.

Also making appearances on Southern Living's best list is Gnat's Landing on St. Simon's Island and The Original Crab Shack on Tybee Island.
