Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:

  1. The Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision has started the second phase of its training sidewalk construction. The project is located behind the center and will offer different terrains to train students. Cobblestone areas, a bridge, a ramp, and street crossings are some of the terrains that an individual might encounter in the Savannah community. The second phase will include a covered area, tactile walls, and sponsor updates. (WSAV-TV)
  2. Chatham County and Savannah will be heading to mediation in September to resolve LOST negotiations. The Local Options Sales Tax is supposed to be distributed between the governmental entities but the exact distribution is a matter of debate. The tax amounts to a one percent sales tax on goods and services in the region which provides about $1 billion in tax revenue. (Savannah Morning News)
  3. The Savannah Police Department has arrested a teen on second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty charges. The 16-year-old has been accused of fatally shooting two-year-old Lauren Barton. The incident occurred in the 2100 block of Alaska Street. (WJCL News Savannah)
