Atlanta Road Median Public Forum, Cobb Commission Meeting Tonight

The project is part of the 1 percent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) that was approved by Cobb County voters in 2005. It will include installing raised medians and designing and implementing intersection improvements on Atlanta Road from Spring Road to Ridge Road.

“When you talk about medians there’s always concern about where it’s going to go, how wide it’s going to be, where are the cut-throughs going to be, how much room will there be for cars,’’ said Smyrna City Councilman Wade Lnenicka.
The Cobb County Commissioners will also hold their regular board meeting tonight at 7 in the commissioners' boardroom at 100 Cherokee St. in Marietta. As always, the board will allow 12 citizens to speak at the meeting and those concerned with budget cuts for the county’s Animal Control have indicated they will have their say.

At the meeting itself, furlough days for Cobb County employees could be set. Earlier this month, in an effort to make up a $27.1 million shortfall in the 2011 budget, the commissioners reserve money, furlough days and other measures to get through the remainder of the fiscal year ending in September.
A resolution has been drawn up for approval Tuesday. The designated days in it are May 27, June 17, July 1, Aug. 5 and Sept. 1. They all fall in different pay periods.
County Manager David Hankerson will come up with procedures for the departments that can’t cease operations on those days.
It has been previously discussed that furlough days for fire and police staff could be juggled to keep all areas covered. Patch plans to cover the meeting live beginning at 7 p.m.
