Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:

  1. Cobb County talked about its plans to include more electric vehicles to its county fleet. The Cobb County Sheriff's Office's electric prisoner transport van was the first vehicle of its kind to be put into use in Georgia. (Cobb County Courier)
  2. A Cobb County high school band was gifted $15,00 by local companies to help fund the band's opportunity to participate in the 2022 Sugar Bowl Parade and game. The Pebblebrook High School Band will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana, to take part in the parade on Dec. 30 and the game on Jan. 1. (WSB Radio)
  3. The incoming winter storms that have affected much of the U.S. caused numerous flight cancellations and package delays on Friday. The Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in nearby Atlanta reported more than 130 flight cancellations.   • If you're planning to start your new year with a hunt for a new job, then you're in luck! Sandy Springs is partnering with community organizations to hold a job fair on Jan. 12 at the City Springs Performing Arts Center. Come connect with employers and fellow jobseekers in your search!   • The Cobb County Police Department recognized one of its own for a "heartfelt act of service." Officer Withers used his own money to buy a hotel room and hot meal for a man in need of a place to stay during Thursday's frigid night temperatures. (WSB Atlanta)
  • Atlanta's theater season is ramping up to a great start in the new year. The Fox Theater in nearby downtown Atlanta will kick off the season with a production of "Hadestown" while the Aurora Theater in neighboring Lawrenceville will start with "Kim's Convenience."
