Update: Vinings-Area Residents Back Home

Residents evacuated after a possible explosive device was found in their neighborhood were allowed to return to their homes around 11 p.m. Monday.

Vinings-area residents were allowed to return to their homes around 11 p.m. Monday, according to WSB-TV.

Residents within a quarter-mile of the home were evacuated after a possible explosive device was found Monday afternoon in the 3700 block of Tynemoore Trace, Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department told Patch.

"The area was evacuated at first for a short distance," he said. "And then we expanded the evacuation site to the coordinates given to us by the fire department ... for safety reasons.

About 4:30 p.m. Monday, "individuals were cleaning a house because the gentleman had passed," Bowman said. "During the cleaning, they located a safe. Inside the safe, they located a possible explosive device and dialed 911."

The Cobb County police and fire agencies responded to the scene.

They notified the bomb squad, HAZMAT and the Cobb County Public Safety Command Center of the situation as well, Bowman said.

Update, 9:45 p.m. Monday

Cobb County bomb squad and HAZMAT crews are at a home in the 3700 block of Tynemoore Trace, where a possible explosive device was found Monday afternoon.

Residents within a quarter-mile of the home have been evacuated for safety reasons, and it's not clear when that evacuation order will be lifted.

"We don't know," Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department told Patch around 9:45 p.m. Monday. "It all depends on the powers that be to determine exactly what we need to do, how we need to maneuver, how we need to go. When you have an explosive device, it's a slow process."

Reisdents within 500 feet of a Tynemoore Trace home in the Paces Ferry Park subdivision were being evacuated after an explosive device was found at the home.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, relatives cleaning the home of a deceased Cobb County man found the explosive device Monday afternoon inside a safe.

Officers with a bomb squad and a hazardous materials team were dispatched to the scene, Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department told the AJC and 11Alive.
