The family of a 20-year-old Smyrna man who was accidentally shot and killed by his friend earlier this week is seeking financial assistance to pay for his funeral costs.
Jhavares Doster was killed at the intersection of Ember Street and Sherlock Drive in the Oak Creek Estates area just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to police. Investigators say he was fatally shot by a friend while inside a car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Doster’s next of kin say they need $20,000 to transport the young man’s body back to his hometown of Tampa, FL and to help cover the costs of the upcoming funeral. They have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the expenses.
“This is an extremely traumatic incident for my family,” wrote Doster’s father Miguel Gaetan on the fundraiser’s page. “He was greatly loved by many and will be terribly missed.”

The young man who accidentally shot Doster, 18-year-old Demarcus Flint of Marietta, has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, police said. Flint is being held on a $20,000 bond at the Cobb County jail, records show.
Doster’s father is asking people to pray for Flint, saying “his life will forever be changed and his future potentially destroyed due to this senseless accident.”
