Both lanes were closed as officials tried to contain the fire, which started around 5 a.m. Monday, Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services Lt. Dan Dupree told Patch.

"The fuel tanks on the vehicle were ruptured and that's what was on fire," he said.

The fire was extinguished by 5:30 a.m., but it was nearly 8:30 a.m. before authorities were able to open one of the two ramp lanes, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The ramp from I-285 West to I-75 South, which was also closed, reopened at 6:45 a.m. after authorities inspected the overpass for damage.

One person was treated for a possible broken arm, Dupree said.
