Student Hit Outside High School Dies

Police do not expect to file charges against the driver who hit the student Tuesday morning.

The 16-year-old South Cobb High School student who was hit by a car while attempting to cross a busy roadway outside a crosswalk died Wednesday morning, Cobb County police say.

Cobb County police said Tuesday that two young men were attempting to cross Austell Road away from the high school at 9:16 a.m. when one of them was struck by a 2000 Dodge Neon. The 16-year-old who was hit was taken first to WellStar South Cobb Hospital before being transported to Kennestone, according to police.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office notified investigators between 8 and 8:45 a.m. Wednesday that the student died from the injuries he received in the accident.

The driver of the Neon was identified as a 60-year-old Acworth man. Police said they do not expect to file charges against him for his role in the collision.
