WellStar Offers Medical Interpreter Training Program
Preparation for Bilingual Speakers to Interpret, Advocate for Patients

WellStar will offer training for bilingual speakers to become professional medical interpreters. The next course starts on Sept. 12th and the deadline for registration is Sept. 2. Bridging the Gap is a 40-hour medical interpreter training program developed by the Cross Cultural Health Care Program.
The program is also offered to bilingual individuals to fulfill their 40-hour medical interpreter pre-requisite for National Certification. At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to demonstrate concrete skills in medical interpretation and patient advocacy.

An initial language skill assessment will determine acceptance in the program. The assessment including oral fluency tests in both English and non-English is $120. Once accepted, the cost is $530 and includes books and course materials. The classes will be held Saturdays Sept. 12 – Oct. 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the WellStar Development Center 2000 on The Exchange Southeast, Atlanta, GA 30339.
