Mormon Proms Offer Teens Alternative

Snellville teens, ages 16-18, from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be attending one of two proms being held in the Atlanta area on Saturday, May 12.

More than 700 prom-goers will dance the night away in a wholesome and an uplifting environment at either the Forsyth Conference Center, themed “An Evening in Central Park,” or at the Church’s Jonesboro location, themed “Night of Enchantment.” 

"The first Atlanta LDS Prom was held six years ago," said Fred Woolf, coordinator for the Forsyth Conference Center location. "It has been anxiously anticipated and enormously enjoyed every year because it offers all of the good things about prom like dressing up, dancing, decorations, good food and lots of socializing while leaving out the negative experiences of what happens at many proms these days.”

“I love the Mormon Prom,” said Nic Byrd, who attended last year. “What makes it so enjoyable is that you know everyone is there to have good, clean fun.  It’s such a positive atmosphere without any offensive music, people who have been drinking, crude dancing or competition to dress immodestly.”

Youth are encouraged to attend with or without dates and/or in groups. A ticket is needed to get in to either location. Both proms will be well chaperoned and all parts of the buildings and parking lots will be monitored for safety.

“All prom participants, including guests who are not of our faith, must agree to abide by the dress and behavior guidelines addressed on the registration websites,” said Kinley Shell, coordinator for the Jonesboro location. “As youth leaders, it’s all about making sure our teens have a great time in a safe environment with high moral standards.”
