Bites Around Town: Sushi Avenue
The Snellville eatery serves a variety of Japanese dishes including soups, noodles, fried rice, Asian desserts and a wide selection of sushi.
Sushi Avenue has been in the Snellville area for some time now. With multiple establishments in metro Atlanta, including two in Decatur, it serves a variety of Japanese dishes including soups, noodles, fried rice, Asian desserts and a wide selection of sushi.
My husband and I stopped by the 2118 Scenic Hwy. restaurant for lunch this week and ended up getting the same special for $8.25: the Bento Box with California rolls and chicken teriyaki. There are other options for the Bento Box besides the sushi and chicken, which can be found on the restaurant's lunch menu.
The meal came first with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing, which were both satisfying except that my salad was a little small; it literally five pieces of lettuce. My husband's was bigger, so he let me have some of his.
Despite the small bit, the bento box was huge.
In addition to the meat and sushi, the meal also came with white rice, edamame and a huge chunk of watermelon--something I had never seen before in a bento box. I'm used to a small orange slice. Regardless, I liked the change in fruit, and everything else was tasty and left me full.
I couldn't finish the whole box, but that doesn't mean I skipped dessert. We ordered the green tea tempura ice cream, which is basically fried ice cream.
Sushi Avenue makes it slightly different, though: They make theirs look like sushi, coming out looking like a log that had been sliced into pieces. The chefs top the dried ice cream with whipped cream and strawberry and chocolate syrup.
What's not disappointing is that the dessert's cute display matched the taste: It was delicious, and I ended up craving more.
