Honors for Snellville Schools

High schools receives recognition for success on advanced placement exams.

Snellville's three high schools were honored by the state and the Gwinnett County school district for their success in advanced placement tests. 

The schools -- , and high schools -- were among 17 schools in Gwinnett County named “2011 AP (Advanced Placement) Honor Schools.”

The number of schools recognized as "AP Honors Schools" grew from 12 in 2010 to 17 in 2011. The list includes 16 traditional high schools and a system charter school. Several schools are recognized in more than one category.

On Snellville's schools:

Brookwood High School received honors as an "AP Merit School," an "AP STEM School," and as an "AP STEM Achievement School."

Shiloh High School received honors as an "AP Access and Support School" and as as an "AP STEM School."

South Gwinnett High School received honors as an "AP Access and Support School" and as an "AP STEM School."

Categories defined:

AP Access and Support Schools:

Schools with 30 percent of AP test takers that are African-American or Hispanic and at least 30 percent of all AP exams scoring three or higher. (A five is the highest score that can be obtained.)

AP Merit Schools:

Schools with at least 20 percent of students taking AP exams and at least half of
the AP exams scoring a three or higher.

AP STEM Schools:

Schools with students testing in at least two AP mathematics courses and two AP science courses. These courses are AP calculus AB, AP calculus BC, AP statistics, AP biology, AP chemistry, AP environmental science, AP physics B, AP physics C, AP computer science.

AP STEM Achievement Schools:

Schools with students testing in at least two AP mathematics courses and two AP science courses and at least 40 percent of the exam scores on AP mathematics and AP science exams earning scores of three or higher.

AP Challenge Schools: (No Snellville high school received this distinction.)

Schools with fewer than 900 students with students testing in the four core areas of English, mathematics, social studies and science.
