1 Dead In Double Shooting At Cobb Apartments

Police investigate incident late Wednesday at Windwood complex.

SOUTH COBB, GA -- Police are investigating a double shooting that claimed the life of one person and sent the other to the hospital. For more crime news and updates on this and other stories in Cobb County, click here to get Patch's daily newsletter and free, real-time news alerts.

The incident occurred Wednesday in Austell at the Windwood Apartments in the 6900 block of Shenandoah Trail.

Police believe the two victims were involved in a shootout of some kind. Authorities are looking for several other people who were purportedly involved.

While police have no suspects yet, they did recover a gun, WGCL reports.

Neighbors said that loud gunshots interrupted the evening calm about 7 p.m.

"I was looking at a movie on my phone then I heard, like, five shots," neighbor Ranier Fields told WSB-TV. "I saw somebody lying down in the corner over here on the ground. I saw cops trying to revive him."

Coincidentally, firefighters happened to be at the complex responding to a call about a mother who locked her child inside her car. They were called to the crime scene to assist.

Residents told local media that crime has been intense around the apartments in recent months.

The injured gunshot victim is reportedly in critical condition.
