Austell Girl Found in Unkempt Home

The girl's mother is in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in connection with the incident.

Authorities Saturday evening found an 11-year-old girl in a home that they deemed unfit "for habitation by humans."

Officials with the Austell Police and Fire Departments as well as the Cobb County Division of Family and Children Services said the home in the 6000 block of South Avenue had "excrement on the floors," according to a Cobb County criminal warrant.

The girl's mother, Cynthia Lee Christopher, was arrested Sunday afternoon on a charge of cruelty to children in the second degree, online jail records show.

"Accused did not take any action while supervising said child to ensure the health and well-being of the child by causing the child to continue to live in these described conditions," according to the warrant. "Accused did admit to having a drug and alcohol problem."

Christopher remains in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $15,000 bond.
