Cobb School Bus With Children Aboard Rear-Ended by Car

Crash occurred about 7 a.m. in Austell.

SOUTH COBB, GA -- Emergency crews were on the scene early Tuesday after a Cobb County school bus was hit from behind by a car in Austell.

The students and adults aboard were uninjured, according to news reports. But the crash snarled traffic on Austell Road, where the accident happened.

The special education bus was en route to Sanders Elementary School in Austell when the crash occurred, according to Cobb County Schools spokeswoman Donna Lowry, cited by WGCL.

Images from a news chopper showed a mangled champagne-colored four-door Sedan with its roof ripped off. The bus sat on top of it with its back fender and undercarriage near the rear left wheel badly damaged.

The driver was briefly trapped in the school bus and had to be extricated from it, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Investigators are still trying to find out what caused the crash, WGCL reports.
