'Just There To Help': Good Samaritans Save Woman After SUV Flipped In Marietta

BREAKING: Two men, including a Marine, jumped to help an elderly woman who nodded off at the wheel and crashed.

SOUTH COBB, GA -- Marietta police are hailing two Good Samaritans, one of whom is a Marine, who helped an elderly woman out of an overturned vehicle after she fell asleep behind the wheel and hit a light pole.

The traffic accident happened Tuesday afternoon, according to police, when the woman was driving through the Marietta Square, police said.

When officers arrived upon the scene just after 4 p.m., they saw two men -- both of whom chose to remain anonymous -- working to pull the woman out of the vehicle.

The woman told officers that she hadn't gotten any sleep due to a medical emergency involving a relative the day before.

In fact, she was on her way to Kennestone Hospital to see the family member when she nodded off, she said.

The driver sustained no injuries in the crash and no other vehicles were involved.

In a message on Facebook, the Marietta Police Department said: "MPD would like to say a HUGE thank you to the Marine and the other male that assisted in rescuing the elderly female!"

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the men told police they were “just there to help, not for the recognition.”
