Man Arrested With 50 Packets Of Crack Cocaine Near Cobb School: Police

Levern Pompey was pulled over near Compton Elementary when a Powder Springs officer smelled marijuana.

POWDER SPRINGS, GA -- A man who police believe was on his way to drop children off at school was arrested for allegedly having more than 50 packets of crack cocaine in his pants, Patch has learned.

The incident happened Wednesday near Compton Elementary School on New MacLand Road.

Levern Pompey is facing multiple charges, including distribution of drugs on school property, according to news reports.

Pompey had 6 grams on him, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Pompey was driving his girlfriend and two children when Powder Springs police pulled him over. The traffic stop would have been a simple one -- until the officer smelled a little bit of marijuana.

"That's when the officer made contact with the front passenger and that's when he smelled an even stronger smell of marijuana," Powder Springs police Officer Justin Arndt told WSB-TV.

He is being held without bond in jail, according to information from the Cobb County Sheriff's Office.
