Memorial Day Weekend Activities & Festivities Galore

School's out and no work on Monday means a three-day weekend to relax, celebrate, eat and honor.

Memorial Day weekend is a time to lounge around pools, travel with the family, hang out for a day at Six Flags and remember those who have fought and died for us.

South Cobb Patch has rounded up some of the hottest places to cool down in and around South Cobb and Metro Atlanta for this Memorial Day weekend:

  • Six Flags Over Georgia debuts its showstopping . The act won third place on last season of "America's Got Talent," which was filmed in Atlanta. Six Flags, now open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays,  is also offering great deals on season passes as well.
  • It wouldn't be a real celebration without playing somewhere in South Cobb. On Saturday, the band led by Kerry Ayres will play at at 9 p.m.
  • The has become a staple for Memorial Day weekend for thousands in the Metro Atlanta area. People flock from all over to lay on their blankets or lounge in their chairs in Piedmont Park listening to the smooth grooves of top jazz artists. Sat.-Mon., May 26-28. Free.   • In the South, Memorial Day is all about barbecue, brews and salutes. Get your brew on at the fifth annual event at Zoo Atlanta. Sample all kinds of beers while listening to the socially conscious hip-hop of Arrested Development. Sat., May 26, 5:30-9:30 p.m. $38-$48. Zoo Atlanta, 800 Cherokee Ave. 404-624-5600. www.zooatlanta.org.
  • Honor the troops on Monday at the the , which begins at 9:30 a.m. and is free to the public. This year’s speakers include Capt. Joe Caley and Maj. Gen. James Livingston. In case of bad weather the ceremony will be held inside the Smyrna Community Center. The is holding a barbecue following the ceremony. The event is open to the public and barbecue sandwich plates will be for sale. The all-day event also features cakewalks and raffles.
