South Cobb Area Students Honored by Boys & Girls Clubs
About 10 students from South Cobb and Pebblebrook were among those honored recently for graduation from the organization's College Bound program.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) honored 15 outstanding Cobb County graduates who are College Bound participants at its 18th annual College Bound Senior Celebration on May 17. Ten of those students graduated from and high schools.
College Bound is an educational program designed to support BGCMA high school students through the college preparation and application process. Participants benefit from one-to-one academic advising, ACT/SAT and Georgia High School Graduation Test preparation, tips for improving study skills, financial aid and scholarship information and college tours.
Senior Celebration is an annual event which concludes the College Bound program and celebrates members’ high school accomplishments and post-graduate plans.

College Bound’s 2011-2012 senior class graduated 107 members. Of those 107 members, 90 percent of them were accepted to college and plan to continue their education this fall. Forty-eight seniors were awarded funding through the BGCMA Scholarship program, and 43 graduated with honors, having a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average.
“I’m so proud of all our graduating members,” said LaFonda Williams, BGCMA’s Director of College & Career Development, in a release. “It’s amazing to be a part of a program that directly affects the lives of our youth. After all, so many of our members have the ability to succeed and all they need is a little guidance and encouragement. Through College Bound, we encourage members to consider all their options and reach for their dreams.”
