• Bid Opportunity- West Fourth Street Drainage (springfieldga.org) — Springfield is seeking sealed bids by January 7, 2026, for drainage improvements along West Fourth Street, with work to be completed in 60 days. Contractors will install new stormwater pipes and inlets, handle traffic control, and restore asphalt and grass, with plans available through Parker Engineering in Statesboro.
   

• City of Springfield, Effingham Co. Schools team up to improve early literacy (wtoc.com) — Springfield families are seeing a new push to boost early literacy, as the city, Effingham County Schools, and Ferst Readers team up to get free books and reading support to children from birth to age five. Local leaders, including Springfield’s mayor‑elect and the school superintendent, say the partnership aims to prepare young kids for school success and strengthen community involvement around reading.
