Statesboro moves forward with Phase 2 of Fire Service Fee Study as funding gap widens (griceconnect.com) — Statesboro officials have approved moving into Phase 2 of a Fire Service Fee Study, laying the groundwork for a major 2026 decision on how to fund the city’s fire department. Consultants say rising costs and a widening funding gap may require either a higher millage rate or a new fire service fee, and the next phase will build detailed rate models and include extensive public outreach.
   

2. Woman killed by commercial truck in Statesboro (wsav.com) — A 57-year-old Statesboro woman died Wednesday morning after a commercial truck struck her as she crossed East Parrish Street in a marked crosswalk, according to Georgia State Patrol. Troopers say the truck had a green light and the pedestrian signal showed “don’t walk” when she entered the roadway. Authorities are still investigating the fatal crash.
   

3. 11 GA Hospitals Among Best In U.S. In New Forbes Ranking (patch.com) — East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro has earned a four-star spot on Forbes’ new 2026 Top Hospitals list, putting it among the best-rated facilities in Georgia. The ranking weighs outcomes, best practices, value and patient experience, and includes 11 hospitals statewide that met Forbes’ high performance benchmarks.
   

4. Police Report - 12/10/25 (statesboroherald.com) — Local law enforcement logged several arrests involving Statesboro residents, including wanted-person cases and traffic-related charges, along with drug and DUI offenses from nearby communities. Statesboro police and fire each handled dozens of calls Monday, while Bulloch County EMS responded to multiple accidents and medical emergencies. The 911 center also reported numerous hang-ups and mutual-aid calls to neighboring counties.
   

5. Langston Chapel 8th-grade class gets visit from Statesboro mayor Johnathan McCollar answers questions, shares his vision for city (statesboroherald.com) — Statesboro Mayor Jonathan McCollar recently visited Langston Chapel Middle School’s 8th graders, answering their questions about education, leadership, and his path into politics.
