Water Main Break Closes Buford Highway, Impacts School

Gwinnett County Water Resources said a 10-inch water main broke on Buford Highway near Woods Creek Lane at the Sugar Hill-Suwanee line.

A water main break closed Buford Highway Tuesday morning, impacting several areas near the Suwanee-Sugar Hill city limits, including an elementary school.

According to Gwinnett County Water Resources, a 10-inch water main broke on Buford Highway near Woods Creek Lane.

Crews were on site to make repairs. “The initial assessment is that the water repair will take 6-8 hours to complete,” the department said in an alert. ”The goal is to have the road opened for tomorrow morning’s traffic, depending on conditions.”

Gwinnett Public Schools said on Facebook that Robert Elementary was without water through the morning, but water coolers and cup had been stationed in the hallways. The school district said some bus delays were expected for Roberts, Suwanee Elementary and North Gwinnett Middle.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the water main has been repaired and the highway was expected to be re-opened by 5 p.m.
