Taqueria Tsunami: Casual Atmosphere, Traditional Latin and Asian Cuisine

Taqueria Tsunami celebrated its one year anniversary in November. The restaurant will be rolling out a seasonal menu over the next couple months.

“We absolutely adore the Marietta Square community,” Alexis Aleshire, Marketing, Taqueria Tsunami, said. “Our guests are very passionate about the area, and as a business we strive to be support the local charitable efforts.”  

In July, they will be opening a new location at the Shoppes of Atlanta in Woodstock.

Patch: How would you describe your business? What is the atmosphere/style like?

Aleshire: Being a taqueria, we wanted to keep the atmosphere in the restaurant casual, but we also wanted it to have a contemporary look and feel as well.  The combination of the wood and stone, warm elements complements the bright colors of our logo and interior design. Taqueria Tsunami takes traditional Latin and Asian cuisine and fuses the flavors in every menu item, crafted by chef/owner, Scott Kinsey.  

Patch: Do you have a signature dish? 

Aleshire: Being a taqueria, we are well known for our hand-crafted tacos, but our guests also rave about our made-to-order Guacamole, Avocado Cilantro Egg Rolls, South of the Border Rice Bowl and the S'mores Egg Roll dessert. Our best selling tacos are the Shrimp Tempura (Shrimp Tempura topped with Asian Slaw, fresh cilantro and hoisen-lime aioli), Pacific Rim (Grilled chili crusted Mahi topped with lettuce, pico de gallo and hoisen-lime aioli) and Thai Chicken (Grilled Teriyaki chicken, cabbage, carrots, cilantro, sesame seeds and Thai peanut dressing).   Our Shrimp Tempura received the 2012 Taste of Marietta Best International Cuisine award.

Patch: What sets your restaurant apart from others of its kind?

"Our menu offerings and the fact that we make everything fresh, in-house," Aleshire said. "Each dish features a unique combination of flavors only to be found here at Taqueria Tsunami!" 

Patch: Who is your chef? Where did they learn to cook?

Aleshire: With over 20 years of culinary expertise, Chef Scott Kinsey took his vision of Latin-Asian fusion to life at Taqueria Tsunami.  After studying in Paris, Chef Kinsey worked for international restaurant concepts opening locations around the world, and developing menu items that were enjoyed by millions.

Patch: What is your favorite dish?

Aleshire: Wow, that is a hard question!  If I absolutely had to narrow down a perfect meal at Taqueria Tsunami it would consist of: appetizer - Asian Nachos; entree Tsunami Trio with Shrimp Tempura Taco, Garden Taco with Cucumber Salad, and dessert of S'mores Egg Rolls. 

Patch: What is the hardest part of having a successful restaurant on Marietta Square?

Aleshire: We are fortunate to be in such a great location in the Square, but as a restaurant in general, you rely heavily on your staff to make every experience remarkable. Everyone that puts on the Taqueria Tsunami uniform will make an impact on the customers, from the minute you are greeted with a smile by the host, to the knowledge and energy of the server, to the cooks to provide the food to our standards and exceed the guest's expectation. We have an amazing team and are very appreciative of their passion and loyalty to the brand.  

Patch: Why did you choose Marietta Square for your restaurant location? 

Aleshire: Marietta is a great market to be in, and the Square is the heart of the city.  The courthouse and local businesses bring people to the area during the weekdays, and the events and beauty of the Square brings guests in at nights and over the weekends.  The unique culture and community, it is a perfect fit for Taqueria Tsunami.

Patch:  Is there anything else you'd like our readers to know about you or your business? 

Aleshire: Community is a cornerstone of our business, and we are only as successful as the communities in which we reside. We donate a portion of our sales of select tacos to support tsunami relief and natural disaster relief efforts locally and around the world.
