Cherokee Christian Schools Announces Top Honors at the Inaugural Trickum Tussle Wrestling Tournament

November 2024 -- Woodstock, GA –– The inaugural Trickum Tussle Wrestling Tournament held at Cherokee Christian Schools (3075 Trickum Road | Woodstock), wrapped up in spectacular fashion with athletes from 13 Georgia schools competing in the season-opening event. The tournament showcased the skill and determination of student athletes across a variety of weight classes, setting a high bar for the wrestling season ahead.

The tournament featured intense competition, with Fellowship Christian emerging as the overall team champion with 90 points. Milton High School claimed second place with 77.5 points, while Sequoyah High School took third, finishing with 77 points. The event marked an impressive start to the season, with wrestlers representing schools from across the region. An honorable mention went to two Marietta teams: Mt. Paran Christian School placed fourth and The Walker School came in at fifth place.

"We saw some outstanding skills from these student-athletes, and it was incredible to witness such high levels of competition," said Jose Hechavarria, Head Coach of Cherokee Christian’s wrestling program and co-coordinator of the Trickum Tussle. "I saw some great wrestling out on the mats. I’m extremely grateful to our teachers, parents, student volunteers, and staff, including Chef Eric Tochterman, for providing some fantastic brunch and lunch options.” said Alex Teate, CCS Athletic Director and Dean of Students. “Thanks to all their efforts, we were able to host such a successful event at this scale. We’re already looking forward to bringing the Trickum Tussle back in 2025," Coach Teate added.

  9. Rock Springs Christian – 27 points
  10. Mount Bethel Christian – 19 points
  11. St. John Bosco & King’s Academy (tie) – 18 points

  • 106 lbs: Cameron Fourniller, North Cobb Christian
  • 113 lbs: Bryce Rasberry, Fellowship Christian
  • 120 lbs: Ami Weismark, The Weber School
  • 126 lbs: Michael Madda, St. John Bosco
  • 132 lbs: Colby Stock, Fellowship Christian
  • 138 lbs: Luke Hughes, Fellowship Christian
  • 144 lbs: Brock Gunnels, King’s Academy
  • 150 lbs: Connor Heraty, Milton High School
  • 157 lbs: J.J. Smith, King’s Ridge Christian
  • 165 lbs: Clay Driggers, Mt. Paran Christian
  • 175 lbs: Ryder Shaltenbrand, Mt. Paran Christian
  • 190 lbs: Tyler Patterson, Sequoyah High School
  • 215 lbs: Tristan Troyer, Mt. Paran Christian
  • 285 lbs: Bishop Little, Sequoyah High School

This year’s Trickum Tussle set a high standard for future tournaments; the Cherokee Christian wrestling community is poised to make next year’s event bolder. The excitement surrounding the Trickum Tussle Tournament was a wonderful way to jump-start the Wrestling season before Thanksgiving break. Congratulations wrestlers!
