Cherokee YMCA Needs Volunteers For Painting Project
Volunteers are needed to paint the shelter that housed Hurricane Irma evacuees as part of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta Days of Service event.

WOODSTOCK, GA — On Sept. 11, 2017, Hurricane Irma unleashed its wrath on the southeast and displaced many Georgia residents. The Cherokee Outdoor Family YMCA in Woodstock opened its doors to more than 30 people seeking shelter.
In celebration of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta's 160 year anniversary, the organization will host the YMCA Days of Service event. On Sept. 14-15, the YMCA will bring together 1,600 volunteers for 20 community service projects throughout metro Atlanta. The projects will include feeding the hungry, beautifying local parks, assisting veterans with home improvements and more.
In Cherokee County, residents are asked to help paint the interior and exterior of Cardwell Manor at the Outdoor YMCA. The project also calls for improving seven bunkhouses that served as shelter during the hurricane. Volunteers will also refresh paint on additional facilities, including the barn, sports field fences, guard shack and the concession stand.

The YMCA’s Days of Service is a small representation of the big impact that the Y has every day here in Atlanta. Over the past 160 years, the YMCA has evolved to meet the unmet needs within communities around the Metro Atlanta area. While times have changed since its founding in 1858, the YMCA's focus on building a strong mind, body and spirit has not.
