🌱 County Students Attend STEM Camp + Pay Increase Approved For Police

Here are the top four stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- The UGA Alumni Association released its "40 Under 40" list for 2022. The list is comprised of alumni under the age of 40 that have upheld the university's "Pillars of the Arch" — wisdom, justice and moderation. Woodstock resident Matthew Scott Fowler is included in the list this year, Matthew graduated from UGA in 2014. (University of Georgia)
- Cherokee County high school students spent four days at Reinhardt University studying dragonfly DNA. During this month's STEM summer camp at the university, students took samples, extracted DNA and sent it out for sequencing. Along with testing activities, students worked on creating hypotheses and conducting experiments related to DNA. A local Woodstock teacher, Sarah Brennan, was a member of the camp staff. The DNA barcoding camp will be held again next summer. (Reinhardt University)
- The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved a 7% increase in pay for existing police officers, along with a flat $5,000 increase for POST-certified positions. Uncertified deputies start with a salary of $50,243. The sheriff's office hopes the competitive pay will fill existing vacancies within the department. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- The final Cherokee County School District (CCSD) Summer to-go meal service will be held on July 18. An order form must have been completed by 8 a.m. today for each child attending a school in the district.
