Here are the top three stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. The City of Woodstock has taken steps to limit the amount of garbage entering into Lake Allatoona from Noonday Creek. The Lake Allatoona Association conducted a six-month study on Noonday Creek using a debris collection device called a "boom" to capture debris and determine the extent of the issue. There were 42 bags of garbage collected in the boom during that time period. The association advised the Woodstock mayor and city council of the findings and requested the city install a larger boom. In response, city leadership approved and installed a larger and more permanent boom to help catch the litter. Trash and debris gets into Noonday Creek when litter on the roadways flows into storm drains and the waterway itself during heavy rain. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  2. The FoxTale Book Shoppe downtown is holding a book signing with humorist David Sedaris on June 4. The author will be there with his new book "Happy-Go-Lucky," a collection of personal essays, and there are still tickets for the signing line. All tickets come with a copy of the book. If you can't attend the event, you can still purchase a signed copy of the book or the author's past titles online. The meet-and-greet will start at 3 p.m. and the doors open an hour earlier. The book shop is located at 105 E. Main Street. (Free: FoxTale Book Shoppe and Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  3. The Cherokee County Water & Sewerage Authority (CCWSA) is moving forward with the construction of a disinfection system at the Rose Creek water treatment plant. The approval of a $3.3 million system development contract and a $370,232 construction management contract came on Monday during a CCWSA board meeting contract came on Monday. The budget is set at $4.6 million for the UV disinfection system. The UV system allows for UV light to replace chemical disinfection techniques currently used by the authority. The system is projected to be completed within two years. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
