Here are the top four stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. There are a couple free events coming up this week at Woodstock Arts for us to take in, there's a new exhibit to enjoy and a nice, relaxing outdoor Jazz Night. The new exhibition at the Reeves House Gallery opens on Thursday. The "small town: small works" exhibit features art that is 15 inches or less, done by artists that live with 15 miles of Woodstock. There will be an opportunity to purchase, and the pieces include paintings, sculptures, photography and more. Jazz Night in the Backyard at the Reeves House is on Friday. There will be snacks and beverages available for sale and the Halloween centerpieces will be raffled off at the end of the evening. Don't forget about the great ticketed events this week: the Lantern Series brings music from Mountain Heart on Saturday, there's a fun Paint on the Patio happening on Sunday and the last Rocky Horror Show performance will be on Sunday. (Woodstock Arts)
  2. Cherokee County has stood up in support of Reyes and Sharon Morales, owners of Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q in Canton. In true form, the great citizens of our county have offered to do anything they can to help, including offering monetary and physical support to help get the eatery back up on its feet. It is being said that the fire may have started in a back room accidentally, but there has been no official statement of cause from investigators. The insurance company is still investigating as well, and once an outcome from that investigation is revealed, the restaurant will begin the rebuild. (Atlanta News First)
  3. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter has released their holiday wish list, if you'd like to make a donation. You can see the full list on their Facebook page, but the list consists of items they are in need of throughout the year, such as paper towels, dryer sheets, cat and dog food of any kind, canned pumpkin puree, soft dog treats, and peanut butter. You can drop off donations at the shelter, located at 1015 Univeter Road in Canton, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The shelter also has Amason wish lists for general items, the PAWS Pantry and shelter pet enrichment products. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
  4. The USA National Team's World Cup games will be shown on the big screen on the Event Green stage in November. Visit Woodstock is hosting the event, and Woodstock Arts will be on hand selling beer and wine. You may bring your own chairs, blankets, food and non-alcoholic beverages. The games kick off with USA vs Wales on November 21 at 2 p.m. If the World Cup is on your agenda, I can think of nothing better than sharing the excitement with neighbors and friends downtown.
