Here are the top four stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

  1. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a missing person. Chelsea Jean Metz, 32, was last seen walking in the Hickory Flat area, though a date was not given. She was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt and black pants, with a grey and tan hooded sweatshirt around her waist. If you know of her whereabouts or have information regarding the case, please reach out to the Sheriff's Office at 770-928-0239 or 9-1-1. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
  2. The Freedom Middle School history bowl team placed first at the Jimmy Carter Academic History Bowl recently. The eighth-grade team was tested on U.S. presidential history, U.S. history, world history, geography and economics, winning every round against the other competing teams from Georgia. The team will be recognized by the school board and superintendent at a future school board meeting. Great job, kids! (Free: CCSD News and Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  3. Another item of impressive school news, the Woodstock Middle School science team placed third in the National Science Bowl state competition. The Wolverines include two seventh-graders and three eighth-graders from the school, with two eighth-grade teachers at the helm. The nine-round competition included questions from every field of science. Congratulations! (Free: CCSD News and Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  4. There's an Art on the Spot event going on this Friday at the Reeves House! These evenings are really neat (and free) - you'll watch three local artists create art in under three hours, followed by a raffle to win one of the pieces. This month's event features Barbara Dorn, who paints botanical pieces using watercolor, Martha Reid who specializes in crochet and Heather Stevens, a pottery and ceramics artist. The event will be held at the Reeves House Visual Arts Center, 734 Reeves Street, from 6 - 9 p.m. (Woodstock Arts)
