Here are the top three stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- Superintendent Dr. Brian V. Hightower addressed Cherokee County School District (CCSD) School Nutrition workers this week, introducing a new initiative aimed at improving service to district students, teachers and staff. The new award, School Nutrition Team of the Year, will be issued to the top elementary school and top middle/high school team at the end of the school year and will be based on criteria including top scores in health inspections, employee satisfaction, inventory levels and promotions. - The Cherokee County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) is moving towards transportation improvements with respect to all modes of transportation, including automobiles, transit, walking, biking, and new transportation technologies. The second public meeting has been posted online and details the five goals of the plan: Improve Connectivity and Mobility, Maintain Community Health, Safety and Environment, Align Transportation and Land Use Planning , Infrastructure Preservation, and Increase Modal Options. - The Cherokee County School District (CCSD) announced the 2022 CCSD School Nurse of the Year this week. Cathy Alexander of Etowah High School received the award along with an engraved plaque and honor banner and was also named Etowah High School's 2021-2022 Support Staff Employee of the Year. - The July "Morning INfluence" is today and will feature Woodstock Police Chief Robert Jones who will discuss the department and community programs. The networking event at the Chambers at City Center on Main Street will include a raffle, breakfast and a presentation. Please register. (8 a.m.)
- Vinyasa Yoga with Melanie is this morning outside on the deck at the Kingsridge Co-op Orchard located on Bascomb Drive in Woodstock. The class is for all skill levels. Bring your outdoor mat, strap and blocks. Proceeds from the class will hep fund the EBT program at the Woodstock Farm Fresh Market. (11:30 a.m.)
- "Filbert and Wally: Chattahoochee Daydreams Live!" will be at the Hickory Flat Public Library in Canton today. Alizah Anne Kaite will sing and tell stories about the Chattahoochee River and our wildlife. The event is for ages 4 and up, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Please register prior to the event. (2:30 p.m.)
- Newt Gingrich will be at FoxTale today for a meet and greet event. Entrance includes a signed hardcover of his book "Defeating Big Government Socialism." Please purchase tickets beforehand. (4 p.m.)
- The Abstract Floral Art Show "Blooms & Blossoms" is holding an Opening Reception at Menagerie on Main, 351 W. Main Street, Canton. (6 p.m.)
- Jazz Night is happening at the Reeves House. The event is free and snacks and beverages will be available for sale. Tables and chairs will be provided, but you may bring your own. (6 p.m.)
- Reformation Brewery Woodstock is hosting a "Welcome to Hawkins", Stranger Things-themed evening. Enjoy themed drinks, music and activities. (6 p.m.)
- Owl Creek Band is playing at Sunset Grille on Victoria Landing Drive. (7 p.m.)
- Satellite Boulevard DJ will be on the rooftop at Pure Taqueria on Chambers Street (7 p.m.)
- "Moon Yoga" at Horizon Healing Center in Canton: "We will learn a little astrology, set some intentions, and then energize them with gentle yoga poses, a sacred sound experience, meditation, and discussion. We will be using our yoga mats and props. Bring water, a journal, and a light snack to share afterwards." (7 p.m.)

- Cherokee County Senior Services and Stand Up for Seniors will be hosting a hotdog fundraiser on August 26 at 11:30 a.m.. The event will be held at the Cherokee County Senior Center on Univeter Road in Canton and will raise funds to purchase fans and air conditioners for senior clients. - Reminder: The Woodstock Police Department is holding a "Coffee & Recruiting" event this Saturday, July 30, at 9 a.m.. The department is hiring for certified and uncertified positions and will be at Black Rifle Coffee Company on Highway 92 to answer questions and discuss the path to joining the department.
