- A fawn fell into a construction site hole Thursday in the Carmichael Farms subdivision. Officials believe the deer had been in the hole for a couple of days. Cherokee County Deputy Addison Bass went in to save the deer, which ran into the woods as soon as it was lifted to safety. (WSB-TV)
- Highlights from the Board of Commissioners meeting on August 2 have been posted on the Cherokee County website. The board unanimously approved the purchase of 30 new Ford Police Interceptors, 16 ballistic shields and the addition of two new clerk positions in the juvenile court system. Other approvals include the closing of Union Hill Road at Canton Creek until January 23 for construction and several rezoning requests. (Cherokee County Press Release)
- Cherokee County School Superintendent Dr. Brian V. Hightower met with the Cherokee County Council PTA executive board this week. The superintendent spoke about school operation updates and new initiatives, answered questions from the board and heard PTA feedback. Also on the agenda was the Parent University, a program offered each year to parents that covers topics like student success and wellness. (CCSD via Facebook)
- A postal worker out of Cherokee County was sentenced after running over a Woodstock woman with her mail truck in 2020. Jaynie Underwood plead guilty and received three years of probation for the offenses. (Subscription: Atlanta Journal-Constitution | Original Story: Fox 5 Atlanta)
- There was a great turnout for National Night Out! Woodstock families enjoyed food and fun while checking out public safety vehicles and our local safety agencies. - "Designer Cupcakes with Chef Michelle" is a hands-on class at Leaning Ladder on Main Street (7 p.m.)
- "Magic the Gathering Draft Tournament!" tonight and every Friday at Blue Ghost Arcade. Paid admission includes entry into the tournament, and new players are welcome. (7 p.m.)
