Here are the top four stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- A Woodstock High School student is being charged after bringing a loaded gun and drugs to a football game on their campus. Three students and an adult were stopped and searched at the game, and district police found a loaded gun, a magazine and marijuana in one of the student's bags. All students are facing school disciplinary action, and the student that held the gun and drugs is facing criminal charges, including possession of a weapon on campus. (11 Alive)
- Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services held a street sign unveiling ceremony this week during their first live fire training exercise. The signs honor Justin and Amber Hicks, who were killed in their home last year. Justin Hicks was a firefighter for the county since 2015. The street names include Justin Walk, Hicks Circle, Amber Walk and Jacob Avenue. The buildings at the training facility will also honor the family by using numbers on the buildings that hold significance to the Hicks, including their birthdays and wedding anniversary. (Cherokee County Fire & Emergency)
- Village Burger is adding a new location in Woodstock. The restaurant will be located at 9550 Main Street and will open in early 2023. Village Burger offers a full menu with burgers, of course, wings, sandwiches, hot dogs and more. The first location in Dunwoody opened in 2010, and on a personal note, it was our family's go-to for a nice weekend meal and treat when we lived in Sandy Springs. The Woodstock location will be their 6th around the metro area. Welcome, Village Burger! (What Now Atlanta)
- Woodstock Parks and Rec is holding a 9/11 Day of Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday at the 9/11 Memorial in The Park at City Center. The memorial to honor the police, fire, rescue and emergency personnel lost in the attack features two subway tracks recovered from under the collapsed World Trade Center. The ceremony starts at 7 p.m. and a limited supply of 9/11 Remembrance lapel pins will be handed out. (Woodstock Parks and Rec)
