What Not to Say at a Zoo

With Youtube, you run the risk of someone not seeing a viral video. Such was the case Thursday. On the one hand, you could make a bond with someone else by saying “Did you see that Youtube videoahahahahah” and then they start laughing. On the other hand, you could try to explain something hilarious to someone who hasn’t seen the video. 

I just got back from Greenville, SC, where I went to the zoo. In the lion room, I ran into the woman and two kids in the photo.

The little boys didn’t notice the lion. So what pops into my head is that Youtube video of the lion trying to eat the kid through the window. If you haven’t seen it, it’s attached to this story.

I talk to a lot of strangers. Maybe I shouldn’t. But I was excited. Zoos are fun.

Me: Have you seen the Youtube video of the lion eating the kid at the zoo? Ahahahahah…

The mom: No.

And then you reach the point where you either have to try to explain the video or run. I tried to explain.

“He doesn’t eat the kid,” I said. “He just tries to through the glass.” (At this point the mother looks horrified.) “No, I mean, he’s standing right where your kid is and the lion is trying to eat him.” (At this point the person I’m with looks horrified.)

We’re in a weird age. Most people know Facebook, but we’re in some kind of multimedia overload where nobody can keep up with everything.

But what now? Do you keep explaining the trends or do you just run and hope you didn’t freak anyone out?
