Hawaii Skydiving Plane 'Destroyed By Fire'; 11 Dead

OAHU, HI — Eleven people were killed in a plane crash on the Hawaiian island of Oahu on Friday, officials said.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation said the plane, a twin engine King Air aircraft, went down near Dillingham Airfield. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane crashed while taking off and was destroyed by fire.

It's unclear why the plane crashed, the FAA said. The agency said the plane was carrying skydivers.

Hawaii News Now reported that firefighters found the plane fully engulfed in flames when they responded to the scene.

At least six of the people on board were customers and three were employees, according to Hawaii News Now.

Authorities had earlier said nine people were killed in the crash but later updated the death toll to 11.

The crash is under investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
