Joliet Man, 67, Dies After Jeep Hits Trees, Rolls Over In Front Yard: Joliet Police

JOLIET, IL — A 67-year-old Joliet man was dead at the scene and his 75-year-old female passenger remains in hospitalized critical condition after he crashed a Jeep Cherokee into two trees, then came to rest in the front yard of a home in the 1100 block of Westminster Road in Joliet on Friday evening.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 5:57 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Westminster Road for a single vehicle crash with injuries.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by the 67-year-old man, was northbound on Westminster Road from Clara Avenue. Police say the Jeep veered off the roadway to the east and struck multiple trees, causing the vehicle to roll over and come to rest in a front yard of a house.

The female passenger was extricated from the Jeep by the Joliet Fire Department and taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in critical condition. The driver was also extricated, and he showed no signs of life following an evaluation by paramedics. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County Coroner’s Office.

The roadway was temporarily closed to allow Joliet Police Department Traffic Investigators to conduct a thorough reconstruction of the scene. The identity of the driver and the manner of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
