2022 Top Baby Names: IL Parents Love Olivia, Liam, Noah

ILLINOIS — When babies born in Illinois last year graduate from high school around the year 2040, you may hear names including Liam and Sophia repeated often as the graduates walk across the stage to receive their diplomas.

Noah and Olivia are the top names Illinois parents chose for their babies in 2022, according to the Social Security Administration, which this month released its top baby names by state analysis.

In all, 625 girls born in our state last year were named Olivia, while 698 boys were named Noah, records show.

Here are the top 10 female names in our state last year:

3. Emma
4. Charlotte
5. Amelia
6. Mia
7. Isabella
8. Ava
9. Camila
10. Sofia

These were the top 10 male names in 2022 in our state:

1. Noah
2. Liam
3. Oliver
4. Mateo
5. Theodore
6. Benjamin
7. Henry
8. James
9. William
10. Sebastian

Olivia and Noah were also the top baby names in 2021, and for several years prior.

For girls names, Emma fell one spot to No. 3, replaced by Sophia in the No. 2 spot, and Evelyn — the No. 9 girl's name for 2021 — fell out of the top 10 entirely.

Noah, Liam and Oliver remained the top three boys' names, but Henry was bumped down several spots, falling from No. 4 in 2021 to No. 7 in 2022. Meanwhile, Mateo rose from the No. 9 spot in 2021 to the No. 4 spot for boys names.

Nationally, the top names for babies in 2022 were, for girls:
