4 Inches Of Rain, 40 MPH Winds Possible Monday Night In Illinois

A rainy, windy start to the week is expected before weather dries out Wednesday through Friday.

ILLINOIS — The week is starting with some "active weather" through Tuesday, with the possibility of 4 inches of rain in some areas, according to the National Weather Service Chicago.

"It will be unseasonably warm and muggy with periodic showers and some isolated thunderstorms," the weather service said on its Facebook.

The heaviest rainfall is expected Monday night, and many areas will see 1 to 2 inches of rain across Chicagoland. Localized totals of 2 to 4 inches of rain are also possible.

"Any areas that see the heavier rainfall totals could also experience flooding problems, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas," the weather service said.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph are also possible Monday night, and could gust over 40 mph on Tuesday.

There is also a small chance of an isolated severe storm on Monday night.

The high for both Monday and Tuesday is 71 degrees.

Cooler temperatures will return mid-week, with a high of 57 on Wednesday, a high of 60 on Thursday and 61 on Friday. Dry weather is expected Wednesday through Friday, according to the weather service.
