60MPH Winds, Hail Slam IL In 'Severe Thunderstorm': NWS

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for multiple northern Illinois counties on Tuesday evening.

ILLINOIS — A severe thunderstorm warning was issued Tuesday night in parts of northern Illinois, as weather service officials reported hazardous winds and quarter-sized hail.

The alert was issued just before 9:14 p.m., after "a severe thunderstorm was located near Sandwich, moving northeast at 50 mph," the National Weather Service said. It affects Northern Kendall County, Southeastern De Kalb County and Southern Kane County.

The NWS said the storm was moving with wind gusts of 60 mph and hail was expected to damage vehicles.

"Expect wind damage to roofs, siding and trees," the NWS said.

The alert was scheduled to remain in effect until 10 p.m.
