Dangerous Heat, Another Round Of Severe Weather Coming To Chicago Area

The time frame for these storms is from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Monday evening into Tuesday. Large hail and tornadoes are possible.

ILLINOIS — Another night of severe storms is possible Monday, as heat index values of 105 are expected during the day, according to the National Weather Service.

Before storms on Monday evening, hot and humid conditions after expected in the afternoon, the weather service said. High temperatures will be in the lower to mid-90s, and there will be "very muggy" dew point temperatures in the 70s. Heat index values will be near 105 or slightly higher.

A heat advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for parts of the Chicago area, including Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee and Will counties.

A round of strong to severe storms will move across the area late Monday afternoon through the evening, the weather service said.

The main threat is expected to be damaging winds, but the storms could also produce large hail and tornadoes.

Torrential rainfall could also produce flash flooding, especially for the areas which already received rain during the weekend storms. The time frame for these storms is from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to the weather service.

With the heat expected on Monday, the weather service advises taking extra precautions to prevent heat exhaustion. Limit strenuous activities to early morning or in the evening, and make sure to drink plenty of water and take rests.
