ILLINOIS — As we head into a new week, Patch has rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend.

In one suburb, a community mourned a teen who died after an asthma attack, and his family remembered him as "funny, silly, goofy."

Meanwhile, a man was fatally hit by a semi-truck less than 30 minutes after being released from jail, and another pedestrian was hit in a separate accident.

Plus, a teenager was injured in a dirt bike crash, and police say a carjacker fired a bullet into the victim's windshield during an attempted hijacking.

Hours after playing in a baseball game — then spending time with his siblings — a mother said her 13-year-old son died after having an asthma attack. "You don’t want to believe this," she told Patch of her "funny, silly, goofy" jokester son. "No mom wants to go through it. It’s a hard reality right now."

A semi driver has not been charged in the incident, which police say happened less than 30 minutes after the 51-year-old man was released from the county jail. They say the truck driver was not aware he struck the pedestrian.

Shot Fired Through Windshield In Carjacking Attempt: Police

The victim said the carjackers followed him home from a Metra station parking lot, then blocked the car in before one of the carjackers got out of the vehicle, flashed a handgun, and fired one bullet into their windshield, according to police. The bullet passed through two windows of the car.

Police say they were driving behind a vehicle when they heard what sounded like a gunshot from the car. Officers then pulled the car over and say they found an open tequila bottle and a used shell casing, and police say the driver had gunshot residue on his hand.
