Bitter Cold Expected Through The Week Before Mild Temps Return To IL

Sub-zero wind chills are possible throughout the day on Tuesday and Wednesday.

ILLINOIS — Bitter cold continues Tuesday and into the rest of the week, before milder temperatures are expected for the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has issued a cold weather advisory which is in effect for Lake, Kane, DuPage, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Cook and Will counties until noon Tuesday.

Very low wind chills started the day on Tuesday. The weather service said the lowest wind chills included: -29 in DeKalb, -23 in Wheeling, -19 in Romeoville, -17 in Joliet and -23 in Schaumburg.

The high for the day on Tuesday is 14 degrees, and near-zero or sub-zero wind chills are expected throughout the day on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Wind chills on Tuesday night and Wednesday night could get as low as 20 below zero, according to the weather service.

The high for the day on Wednesday is 17 degrees. Thursday will have a high of 23, with wind chills as low as 15 below zero on Thursday night, the weather service said.

Finally, the end of the week looks to warm up out of sub-zero wind chills with a high of 27 on Friday, and a high of 33 on Saturday. The entire week looks to be mostly dry and partly cloudy; with a possibility of light snow late Wednesday, according to the weather service.
